Catriona Matthew - Carnoustie Country Ambassador
Carnoustie Country is delighted to announce that Catriona Matthew, the 2009 Ricoh Women's British Open Champion, is the first Carnoustie Country global golf ambassador.
Catriona's outstanding international reputation is a perfect match with the Carnoustie Country brand, as both promote Scottish golfing excellence to the global market. As a top golf professional, and Scottish Major winner, Catriona will be a major asset for Carnoustie Country, helping to drive golf tourism to the area.
Catriona said, "I am honoured to be invited to be global Ambassador for Carnoustie Country. I've grown up playing on their wonderful courses and feel I am well placed to represent and promote these stunning Scottish courses as I have had such positive personal experiences playing on so many of them over many years. We played the Ricoh Women's British Open at Carnoustie this year for the first time, and I enjoyed fielding questions from the world's best players as to what they should expect from this great links course."
Despite finishing in a highly creditable fifth place, Catriona certainly enjoyed her time in Carnoustie. Asked for her thoughts on the tournament, she said: "The crowd were fantastic...they were cheering away and gave me a great reception coming up the last. Carnoustie is one of the best links courses there is and I think everyone enjoyed their week here."

About Catriona
Born in North Berwick, Catriona has been one of the leading golfers on the world stage for over a decade. Her sterling amateur record that included the 1993 British Amateur title laid the foundations for a successful carerr, and indeed she has competed at the highest level all around the globe. Catriona's biggest win of all came at the 2009 Ricoh Women's British Open. The Scot led by three overnight and won by three shots from Karrie Webb after birdies on 13,14 and 15 gave her a one-over 73. this win was made more remarkable by the fact that it came just 11 weeks after giving birth to her second daughter, Sophie.
