Alyth Golf Course (est.1894)

Yards: 6259 Holes: 18 Par: 70

An ever-popular heathland golf course, Alyth Golf Club was established over 100 years ago, and remains one of Perthshire's most impressive golf courses. Old Tom Morris was responsible for the design of the original nine holes and James Braid adjusted and extended the course to its present 18 holes in the 1930s.

The course demands constant attention. A combination of tree-lined fairways and diverse rolling terrain places the emphasis on precision rather than distance, although both are required. The back nine includes a trio of holes that stand above the others, the 9th, 10th and 11th. Two long par fours are followed by a par five posing a tight tee shot in every instance as well as narrow green approaches.

The most compelling aspect of Alyth's golf course, however, is its tranquil setting. Within the pines, silver birch and heather overlooking the nearby hills, it is easy to lose yourself in the joy of a good game of golf.

Alyth Golf Course Pro Tops

Nearly every hole of the Alyth course is tree-lined with the added feature of gorse, so accuracy off the tee is vital and doesn't always require the driver. Many of the greens are quite large and with the gentle slopes your putting has to be thoughtful.

A good score can be aided by playing the four par 3 holes in par or better. Although a challenging course, the golf course at Alyth provides huge rewards for the more considered golfer.
