Carnoustie Championship Golf Course (est. 1840)

Yards: 6941 Holes: 18 Par: 72

With a sandy subsoil and open, rolling terrain, Carnoustie's links were patently intended for the game of golf. It was James Braid who designed the course that we know today, although some of his holes were reckoned too weak for competitive play and the notorious "sting in the tail", Carnoustie's final three holes, was introduced to compensate.

Now deemed the "toughest links course in the world", Carnoustie is a significant challenge even on a mild day. The 6th, Hogan's Alley, is particularly well known as one of the world's great par fives.

If you want to experience the very best in Scottish golf, a visit to the Carnoustie Championship course is a must. As a test of golfing skill, the Carnoustie Champion course is unsurpassed, so if you want to really stretch your abilities and take your game to a new level, make sure you tackle the course as part of your golfing break in Carnoustie Country.

Carnoustie Championship Golf Course Pro Tips

Having a strategy and plotting your way round will pay dividends when facing Carnoustie Championship golf course. Don't be overawed by the length of some holes - play an iron or 3 wood off the tee for position. This will keep you short of the many bunkers waiting to catch a wayward or lengthy shot.

The greens, although long, are fairly flat and receptive and should reward good approach play. There's no doubt that the Carnoustie Championship course is demanding and even intimidating, but when played with a level head the course can provide some of the most satisfying golf in Scotland.
