Forfar Golf Course (est. 1871)
Yards: 6,095 Holes: 18 Par: 69
Forfar golf course is a wooded heathland course laid out by four time Open Champion Old Tom Morris of St Andrews in 1871, with alterations made in 1926 by James Braid.
On the front nine, the outstanding hole is the 5th, a par three with its tee set back into the trees. It is a long carry with a steep bank ahead of the green. The 12th is a tough par four, but the 15th, "Braid's Best", is the signature hole of the course, a dogleg right. With the green sitting high on a rise, the ideal shot is a fade off the tee and fade for the second.
Forfar Golf Course is well worth a visit if you're planning a golf break in Angus. It offers a brisk but challenging game of golf, with the undulating fairways testing your golf skills at every turn.
Forfar Golf Course Pro Tips
Standing on most tees at Forfar golf course gives the impression of very tight fairways, and while wayward shots will be punished, the widths of these fairways is generous.
The main feature here however is the number of times you will have to play approach shots from an uncertain lie due to the many slopes to be found round the golf course. The greens also offer up some interesting slopes to test your putting skills. All in all, Forfar golf course presents a fascinating challenge for anyone golfing in Angus.
