The Ricoh Women's British Open 2011

Ricoh Women's British OpenThe 2011 Ricoh Women's British Open was played over the famous links course at Carnoustie from Thursday 28 to Sunday 31 July.

Having famously staged The Open Championship on seven previous occasions, hosting the Women's Open represented new ground for Carnoustie, and the famous golf town took great pleasure in welcoming visitors from the world over to its links course - including the renowned Barry Burn, 'Spectacles' bunker and "Hogan's Alley" - and selection of friendly 19th holes.

As World No 9 Paula Creamer commented just before the tournament teed off, "Though Carnoustie will be quite daunting, I'm already looking forward to the challenge". In the event, the famous wind did not appear over the four days, so, perhaps unusually, the course was a fairly benign mood to both players and spectators.

Visitors to the tournament also had the chance to explore the delights of Carnoustie Country, sample the local produce, explore the great outdoors, and take the opportunity to play some of our excellent golf courses (links, heath and parkland) at very reasonable prices.

If you missed the Ricoh Open, then now is the perfect time to plan your trip to the 2011 Dunhill Links Championship at Carnoustie, which tees off on Thursday 29 September.
