Golden End to Royal Montrose Golf Club’s Week of Celebration!
| 07 September 2010 |
| The Week of Celebration marking Royal Montrose Golf Club’s bicentenary ended on a high note on Friday, 3 September with a special golf tournament and a highly-enjoyable barbeque and prize giving. The day began with club members and international guests competing in a Hickory Shaft Tournament, which consisted of seven holes on the Broomfield Course, playing with original hickory-shafted golf clubs and by 1830s rules. At the end of the tournament, the competitors, including the 100 golfers from royal golf clubs all over the world who had travelled to Montrose to participate in the Week of Celebration, retired to the clubhouse for a barbeque and the official prizegiving. Amongst the prize-winners was Australian Elizabeth Cooper from Royal Melbourne Golf Club, the Leading International Player in the four tournaments which took place during the Week of Celebration. In recognition of this success, Elizabeth was presented with the highly-coveted Carnoustie Country Golden Putter by Councillor Bob Myles, leader of Angus Council, supporters of the Club’s bicentenary celebrations through Carnoustie Country, which promotes the golf courses in and around Angus. |
